We also recognize that unprecedented events are occurring on our planet and that the impact of climate change requires swift and concrete action. Nothing will test us more in the coming 25 years than this challenge.
Consequently, Solmatech has been working for over a year to lay the foundations of its climate action plan with the assistance of consultants from NEL-i, experts in the field. In brief, this extensive analysis has enabled us to:
- Carry out an organizational GHG evaluation for the past two years
- Pinpoint reduction options
- Assess the potential
- Compare different scenarios
- Determine specific objectives and measures
Our climate action plan focuses on five strategic areas forming part of an evolving strategy that allows us to continually re-evaluate our approach and refine the plan over time.
- Measure: Measure our corporate emissions annually
- Reduce: Pinpoint reduction options and set objectives
- Offset: Offset residual emissions
- Communicate: Track and report progress toward our objectives
- Evolve: Seek new reduction possibilities and invest in initiatives aimed at lowering our carbon footprint.
As a result of a comprehensive analysis and an evolving reduction strategy, Solmatech is making commitments to mitigate both direct and indirect emissions, over 90% of which are linked to employee transportation. Our objectives have been established using 2019 as the reference year. Specifically, they correspond to reductions of:
- 10% by 2026
- 50% by 2030
- 90% by 2035
To achieve our objectives, an action plan with reduction potential has been implemented, particularly through the electrification of our transportation fleet — you may have already seen one of our green vehicles — as well as by improving our remote working policy.
In the meantime, Solmatech is also committed to maintaining full carbon neutrality across its operations and will offset all direct emissions from its activities, including those from the 2020 assessment. To this end, we are completing a long-term carbon credit procurement and offset strategy, which aims to support concrete projects that are consistent with the company’s values, specifically initiatives focused on natural carbon sequestration.
